Welcome to another Political Podcast from BowlersDesk.com. Ric Epps and I went met up with Kevin Faulconer at his campaign headquarters. While Kevin is the official Republican candidate for mayor he wants to be seen as a moderate Republican that can work with San Diego Democratic City Council. We were able to touch on lots of things in our half an hour with him. How are you going to help San Diego’s middle class? What does it take to get our economy back on track? How is his record helping or hurting him? And more. You be the judge. Welcome to another Political Podcast from BowlersDesk.com. This time Ric Epps and I sat down with Mayoral candidate Nathan Fletcher. This is Nathan’s second bite at the mayoral apple. We talked about everything from the economy, to the federal shutdown, and beer. To me his campaign doesn’t seem to be that different substantively this time around, with the exception of his staff. Reaching across the aisle and working with other is a main theme. His campaign wants voters to see him as the boss you like. Firm but fair. You be the judge. Hello and welcome to this special BowlersDesk.com Political Podcast. This week Ric Epps and I tackled the tough issue of gun control. No matter what side of the gun debate you fall on everyone needs to be at the table on this. Both fervent pro gun activists and anti gun activists. We went out to a pro-second amendment rally in east San Diego County. The Lemon Grove Rod and Gun Club hosted the rally. They let anyone that wanted to come out and shoot guns, under the supervision of a club member of course. We sat down with California Stage Assemblyman Brian Jones. Brian is a Republican from the 51st assembly district, that’s east San Diego County from Santee out to the Imperial County line. One of the platforms in his campaign was gun ownership. He is a fervent supporter of it. He opposes any gun registration laws and thinks Americans should be able to buy any kind of gun they want. Sam Paredes the Executive Director of Gun Owners of California also joined us. Sam is as fervently pro-gun as the Assemblyman. Now for the sake of full disclosure you need to know I am not what could be called pro-gun. I do not believe that you should be able to buy a 50-caliber car mounted machine gun. However I think there are responsible gun owners’ out there. And like most Americans I fall in the grey space between this issue. Ric and I hope that this is the beginning of a dialog about the issue. Everyone needs to be at the table in a genuine and sincere way on this issue. We just started with the pro-gun people and hope to bring you a Political Podcast with anti-gun activists soon. This is a hot topic and I’m sure you’ll want to hop on your soapbox over it. So do that by hopping on ours. Call 619-663-4531 leave a message, ask a question, and take part in the discussion. Everyone needs to be at the table. And now gun control on the BowlersDesk.com Political Podcast. Enjoy … And please remember to post, re-post, and share.

This time around we sat down with one the latest mayoral candidates, David Alvarez. David is the city councilman for District 8. He is the son of a farm worker and grew up in one of San Diego’s toughest neighborhoods, Barrio Logan. He met us at his campaign headquarters witch is also his garage. The soft-spoken Alvarez is confidante he’s going to win this and is trying to cast himself as the “new normal” or “new typical” face of San Diego. It was enlightening and interesting. He promises to fight hard and loud. But you be the judge. Please listen, share, and re-tweet!

What does Nathan Fletcher have to offer? Will Fletcher lock in Democratic support or will Mike Agurrie? Welcome to another edition of the BowlersDesk.com Political Podcast.

This time Ric Epps and myself recorded the podcast in front of San Diego’s City Hall. We were there just before a Resign/Recall Bob Filner Rally/March.

We talked to two of the organizers.

1: Republican Kathryn Vaughn: Member of USO San Diego Board of Directors and Partner with Vaughn & Vaughn Attorneys at Law. She was named California’s Volunteer of the Year in 2010 and is a workshop leader on sexual harassment in the workplace.

2big smileemocrat Karen Cebreros: Founding Partner of Track the Impact and Member of the Rotary Club of San Diego. She is also a founder and former director of the International Women's Coffee Alliance and a strong advocate for sustainable and ethical farming practices around the world.

This event describes itself as a “grassroots group [that] began with both political affiliations sitting around a dining room table, united together to call for Mayor Bob Filner’s resignation in the face of what is now known to be a long-standing pattern of overwhelming inappropriate and harassing behavior towards women.

We also talked to the self described Public Relations “flak” David Oates from Stalwart Communications … he’s the guy that helped to organize the organizers. He shared his insight about the kind of people that came out for the resign/recall rally.

Interesting and fun.

As always if you want to hop on your soapbox … you can by hopping on ours … call us at 619-663-4531

Now the BowlersDesk.com Political Podcast with me Matt Bowler and the Political Professor Ric Epps.

Welcome to another edition of the BowlersDesk.com Political Podcast.

This time Ric Epps and myself recorded the podcast at Union Station or Santa Fe Station in downtown San Diego. We were out by the fountain. So you could hear some water falling, train horns, traffic, and even some people.

We did our normal thing and touched on local, national, and international political events.

However this time we spent some time focusing on the Snowden controversy. Jack Anderson a software developer joined us and shared his expertise with us. Jack gave us his technical insight into the kinds of things that Snowden may have exposed.

Interesting and fun.

Welcome to another edition of the BowlersDesk.com Political Podcast.

This time Ric Epps and myself recorded the podcast at Old Trolley Barn Park in University Heights.

We were joined by San Diego City Councilman Kevin Faulconer. Kevin talked with me early Sunday morning over the phone before the podcast’s recording.

Of course San Diego Mayor Bob Filner’s sexual harassment scandal is top of things he wanted to talk about. However, I did get him to touch on a few things that are being overshadowed by the scandal.

Along with the Filner fiascos we talked about the Tourism Marketing District, the prevailing wage vote, and a bit of party politics.

But he is pushing, in a very polite way, for Filner to resign, along with nearly everyone on the council, Republican or Democrat.

As always if you want to hop on your soapbox … you can by hopping on ours … call us at 619-663-4531
